How Collins and Sally got involved with K.I.D.S. In Uganda:
Both Collins and Sally grew up as Orphans in Kenya. Both have lost their fathers; Collins also lost his mother at the age of 16. Before the young couple were married, they attended a Teen Missions Boot Camp. Both excelled in the rugged environment and consequently were invited to attend a Teen Missions sponsored BMW (Bible, Missions, and Work) school in Nakabongo, Uganda. Four years later, following graduation, the couple were married.
Experiencing orphan life personally, they share a Godly passion to serve orphans in Uganda. Having observed this young couples’ love and heart for at risk children, River Valley Church hired them to act as Rescue Unit Facilitators. They have since become an integral part of the K.I.D.S. in Uganda Ministry, Collins now serving as National Country Co-Director!
Camille has been a missionary with River Valley for over twenty years. She began full time work with Teen Missions in 1988. Eventually this landed Camille in Uganda, teaching at a Teen Missions boot camp and helping run the Uganda branch. In 2012 Camille became the Co-Country Director for K.I.D.S. in Uganda. She oversees staff, facilities, and works with community leaders and schools. With her heart for both orphans and Uganda she is a wonderful asset to our team!
Based at SonShine Christian High School, Mark and Kerry Kellond joined KIDS Uganda staff in 2020. The Kellonds have been global workers with a special emphasis on youth for over twenty-five years. They will be using their skills and experience to love and disciple the students, faculty and staff of the school.
It's a song Shirley and I used to sing when we were working with Jr/Sr. Hi kids a VERY long time ago. It got me to thinking about miracles, and just how many we’ve seen.
Take the time when our my computer was stolen from my car, discarded when the thief couldn’t “open” it, found by a total stranger from Santa Clara, Ca, (in the middle of a very busy street) who “hacked it open”, found out who the owner was, (me), contacted me the day i was leaving the Bay Area, took his time to get it back to me……under 1 condition: “That we tell him about the work we do with KIDS in Africa”; ( he had seen some of my pictures in the computer). Later, he said he might be able to do a small donation in the future. A week or so later…….a SIZABLE CHECK SHOWED UP IN OUR MAIL BOX.
Or when friends from our long ago past began supporting orphan kids in Uganda…..a bunch of them, because we had a chance conversation over a class reunion dinner. Since then, fresh water Bore Holes have been dug in several locations, providing for entire villages…..not just our orphan kids. That’s just the tip of their iceberg.
Or how about the couple who decided to sponsor orphan kids in Africa……..50 of them, so they can get an education and a real meal to FILL their bellies at a weekend camp-out.
Or the woman who put her diamond ring in the offering plate at River Valley, saying she didn’t need it as much as these kids needed emergency food and medicine or clothing..
Or the guy and his wife who highly value education, and so have had built a Library, a Computer Lab, a Clinic AND now starting a Science Lab at SonShine Christian High School.
Or the owners of a small but wonderful business in town who received an inheritance and said “God told them to tithe the funds to KIDS in Uganda…”
Or the couple who “felt compelled to donate their prized Harley Davidson to build a “Safe-House Dormitory” for at-risk young girls’…….
Or the man who sent us a letter saying “he and his wife were traveling thru Grants Pass, stopped at River Valley one Sunday morning and heard us speak about the work there. For TWO years he said he heard God telling him to support the work. A few months ago, we got his letter, describing this to us, along with a check he said was long over do”.
Or a man named Clarence whom i met just once for a very brief time. A friend saw a short video clip of our work; he told a friend of his about it; he contacted me wanting to see it. I showed him. He left after a 30 minute meeting and a few weeks later, this man included us in his Living Trust…..along with The Pregnancy Care Center, The Gospel Rescue Mission and a local Christian High School. THAT too was a miracle! He died before i ever got a chance to thank him.
Or the woman who had such a heart for the Orphan kids and the program, that she left a SIZABLE (6 FIGURE) portion of her estate to the Orphan Ministry AND the Schools we now operate.
Seriously……. I could keep this up for hours! I've left out too many. And as i write this, I’m convicted of the fact that it has EVERYTHING to do with the God of the Universe. People have said to us a number of times “how they admire our work etc etc.” Please hear this: We are a single link in Gods chain…….and nothing more. I communicate about this work because its good and necessary work. And there are countless opportunities to be a part of . Goodness abounds when we choose to let it. So (you): DO miracles! Like Paul said to the Corinthians (1st Cor. 3:6-8) “I have planted, Apollos watered, and God gave the increase”. I am SO grateful for my many friends and co-laborers. I head back over in a month; will pass along greetings to all of those who we get to share Gods great blessings with.
